Chunky Healthy Blender Smoothie Recipes

Super healthy chunky blender smoothie recipes that cleanse, energise and detox the body

With the arrival of spring I've been feeling the need for a freshen up, especially after all those warming winter meals. I hate the word "diet" as it seems so restrictive and untasty, but shedding a few winter kilos is easy if you just alter the foods you eat to include some yummy cleansing fruit and veg and pass on the comfort food. I've been starting the day off with a glass of warm water and lemon juice to get the old digestive system going, followed by these chunky blender smoothies that change depending on what I have in the fridge or in the garden. I prefer to do mine this way rather than in a juicer as they retain all the fibre and other goodies such as the nutrients in the skins that will usually go in the bin. If you don't like pulpy juices, you best give these a miss. You will feel your energy increase in no time.

Pear, Kale, Kiwi fruit and Coconut Smoothie
  • 1 pear cut into chunks
  • 2 or 3 leaves of kale (or other dark leafy greens)
  • 1 kiwi cut into chunks
  • Coconut water or juice

Add all ingredients to your blender and whiz!

Pear is rich in fibre and high in potassium = good for the gut and energy levels
Kale is rich in folate, potassium, magnesium and manganese - great for skin, muscles and energy
Kiwi fruit is rich in beta-carotene and vit C = cleansing and energising
Coconut water is high in potassium and starves off sugar cravings, being naturally sweet

Banana, Berry, LSA and Pomegranite Smoothie

  • 1 banana cut into chunks
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen berries
  • 1 tbsp LSA (linseed, sunflower and almond mix - can be purchased at your supermarket or health food shop)
  • Pomegranate Juice

Once again, add all ingredients to your blender and whiz!

Bananas are rich in fibre, pottasium and vitamins C and B6 = lots of energy!
Berries are high in antioxidants that prevent disease and are good for your skin.
LSA is high in the good fats needed to maintain healthy cholesterol levels and cleanse and detox the liver.
Pomegranate is high in potassium and vit C = a clear head and loads of energy

Cucumber, alfalfa, spirulina and apple Smoothie

  • Half a lebanese cucumber, cut into chunks
  • Small handful of alfalfa sprouts (or watercress)
  • 1 tbsp spirulina powder
  • apple juice

You guessed it - Add all ingredients to your blender and whiz!

Cucumber is highly cleansing and good for skin, nails and hair.

Alfalfa is high in folic acid in zinc and have a stimulating effect on the body.
Spirulina is a micro-scopic algae that is super high in plant proteins and nutrients.

Apples are high in vitamin C and antioxidants.
